Reserving a unit online and moving in was a breeze. However, the “area manager” working at the 8713 Unicorn Drive, Knoxville TN, 37923 location has been nothing but rude, accusatory, and unprofessional since our first interaction. Not only was I never contacted or called after signing my lease, no one came to meet with me to remove the tab lock or show me to my unit or even just introduce themselves. My first interaction with her was for her to pull up in her car, roll down the window and rudely shout at me that I couldn’t unload my stuff at the side of the building as it was too close to where people drive… even though there are units for rent along this side of the building. I quickly asked the friends helping me to move things into the breezeway or closer to the building, and even thanked her politely and tried to remain friendly in the face of her shouts and scowls. Our second interaction was 02/22 (about a week after the first) and consisted of her forcing the door to my unit up (I had pulled it partially down to prevent the pouring rain from blowing in onto my belongings as I took a seat to quickly inventory the contents inside my unit and write out a to-do list while I waited for the rain to let up enough to move some things outside) and she promptly began accusing me of sleeping in the unit. I have never slept or spent the night in the unit (the on site camera footage will show me leaving a few hours after arriving, at most, every single time I’ve visited the unit), and when I attempted to explain to the manager that I had arrived between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM and that I was simply working on rearranging and cataloging my belongings she very rudely and unprofessionally cut me off or spoke over me. She made baseless accusations, refused to listen, was rude and snide and unprofessional. The disrespectful way she approached the entire situation and in which she approached me left me, frankly, reconsidering my choice of storage facility. Unless I am very much mistaken, I pay rent on this storage unit and that rent allows me access between 6:am and 10 pm every day that I choose to be there to store, remove, or organize the contents of that unit. And I should be allowed to do so without being accused of things I am not doing, and being threatened with eviction without being asked so much as a single question within the first 10 days of renting the unit. However, the employee in question has chosen to ignore things like “innocent until proven guilty”, “customer service”, and even the basic forethought to check the cameras before creating an incident out of absolutely nothing. She returned a couple of hours later to see my fiancée, who is currently sick and recovering from bronchitis taking a seat with a scarf over his eyes to combat his migraine. I (the person on the lease and whose belongings are in the unit) was still organizing and reboxing in the unit when she stopped and informed me she was evicting me tomorrow (2/23.) When I- again- tried to inform her in a friendly manner that this was a misunderstanding and that, while I understood her perspective and was apologetic for anything I had done to fuel her concerns, there was nothing to worry about and I would be more mindful in the future if the appearance of things I was met with more unprofessional behavior, and when my friendly demeanor became offended and terse she interrupted me again as she snapped “Do you know who I am?!” The way I was spoken to and treated was nothing short of disrespect, and it was and is unacceptable. She has informed me we will be meeting with the property manager tomorrow, and I can only hope that they will be more open minded to listening. I also feel that perhaps this harassment is not the type of approach that the team is trained for. It’s a shame, as I selected the unit in part because of property manager Kim’s excellent reputation and the glowing reviews online, so this behavior is completely out of left field and disappointing. EDIT 8/22: Things improved and I have not seen the rude employee again since that day
